Why Learn C++?
Three practical reasons C++ remains dominant in specific, performance-critical domains:
- Game engines — Unreal Engine, and much of the game industry's performance-critical code, is written in C++, for direct control over memory and CPU/GPU work.
- Performance-critical infrastructure — browsers (Chrome's rendering engine), databases, and trading systems lean on C++ where every microsecond and every allocation matters.
- Zero-overhead abstractions — C++'s core design philosophy is that a feature you don't use should cost you nothing, and one you do use should cost no more than writing it by hand in C — letting you write higher-level code without giving up C's raw performance.
