Why Learn Java?
Three practical reasons Java remains one of the most widely deployed languages, decades after its release:
- Enterprise backends — banks, airlines, and large-scale systems run enormous amounts of Java, and frameworks like Spring Boot make it a default choice for new backend services.
- Android — Android apps have historically been written in Java (Kotlin is now preferred for new code, but shares the same JVM foundations and interoperates directly with Java).
- Strong tooling and stability — a mature ecosystem of build tools, IDEs, and libraries, backed by strict backward compatibility guarantees between versions.
Its static type system also catches a category of mistakes — calling a method with the wrong argument type, for example — before the program ever runs.
