What Can You Build With Kotlin?

Knowing what Kotlin is used for makes it easier to stay motivated while learning the basics:

  • Android apps — phones, tablets, watches (Wear OS), TVs, and cars (Android Auto).
  • Back-end services and APIs — with Spring Boot or Ktor, from small services to large enterprise systems.
  • Cross-platform apps — Kotlin Multiplatform shares logic between Android and iOS; Compose Multiplatform can share the interface too.
  • Desktop applications — with Compose for Desktop.
  • Command-line tools and scripts — including build scripts: Gradle build files are commonly written in Kotlin (build.gradle.kts).
  • Data processing — with Kotlin's rich collection functions, or libraries such as Apache Spark's Kotlin API.

You will build smaller versions of several of these in the project lessons at the end of each level.
