Beginner Projects
Prerequisites: Level 1 — Beginner
Build these on your own using what you learned in Level 1. Each one uses
values, methods, collections, pattern matching, and Option.
1. Temperature Converter
Write methods that convert between Celsius, Fahrenheit, and Kelvin, and
print a table for -10 to 40 °C in steps of 10 using a for loop and
f interpolation.
2. Word Frequency Counter
Split a paragraph into words, normalize case and punctuation, count each
word with groupBy or foldLeft into a Map, and print the five most
common words.
3. Grade Calculator
Store students and their scores in a List of tuples, compute each
student's average, map it to a letter grade with a match expression, and
print the class average and the top student.
4. Safe Calculator
Parse two numbers and an operator from strings with toIntOption, and
return an Option[Int] — None for invalid input or division by zero.
Print a friendly message for each case.
5. FizzBuzz, Your Way
Print FizzBuzz from 1 to 100 with a match on a tuple
(n % 3, n % 5), then generalize it to take a list of divisor/word pairs.
