What Can You Do With Clojure?
Knowing what Clojure is used for makes it easier to stay motivated while learning the basics:
- Backend services and APIs — web servers with Ring and Reitit, talking to databases, queues, and other services.
- Data processing — transforming, validating, and analyzing data with sequence functions, transducers, and libraries for CSV, JSON, and SQL.
- Financial systems — banks and trading firms use Clojure for its reliability and its strength with data.
- Web front ends — ClojureScript with React wrappers such as Reagent and re-frame.
- Scripting — Babashka runs Clojure scripts instantly for shell automation and CI tasks.
- Databases — Datomic and XTDB are databases built with (and for) Clojure's immutable-data ideas.
You'll build smaller versions of several of these in the project lessons at the end of each level.
