Why Learn Dart?
Practical reasons Dart is worth learning:
- Flutter — one codebase for Android, iOS, web, Windows, macOS, and Linux apps, with a native feel and high performance. Flutter is one of the most popular cross-platform app frameworks.
- Fast feedback — Flutter's hot reload makes building interfaces quick and fun: change the code, see the result almost instantly.
- A clean, modern language — null safety, records, pattern matching, and async/await, without much ceremony.
- Easy to pick up — Dart's syntax will feel familiar to anyone who has seen a C-style language, and it's gentle as a first language too.
- Good tooling — a formatter, analyzer, test runner, and package manager all come with the SDK.
Trade-offs worth knowing up front: Dart is used mostly with Flutter, so outside app development its ecosystem is much smaller than those of JavaScript, Python, or Java. For a single-platform app that needs the very latest platform features, native Swift or Kotlin can be a better fit.
