Beginner Projects
Prerequisites: Level 1 — Beginner
Build these on your own using what you learned in Level 1. Each one uses variables, strings, arrays, dictionaries, loops, and functions.
1. Number Guessing Game
Pick a random number from 1 to 100 with rand(1:100), read guesses with
readline(), say "higher" or "lower", and count the attempts. Use
tryparse so input that isn't a number doesn't crash the program.
2. Unit Converter
Write small functions such as c_to_f, km_to_miles, and kg_to_lb,
then print a conversion table for a range of values with @printf and
the dot syntax (c_to_f.(-10:5:40)).
3. Word Frequency Counter
Read a paragraph, split it into lowercase words, count them in a
Dict{String,Int}, and print the ten most common words, sorted by count.
4. Grade Book
Store students as named tuples with a name and a vector of scores, compute
each average with sum(s) / length(s), assign letter grades with
if/elseif, and print an aligned report.
5. Simple Statistics
Given a vector of numbers, compute the minimum, maximum, mean, median (sort
and pick the middle), and standard deviation by hand — then compare your
results with the Statistics standard library.
