What Can You Do With Julia?
Knowing what Julia is used for makes it easier to stay motivated while learning the basics:
- Simulate the physical world — climate models, pharmacology, epidemiology, circuits, and spacecraft trajectories.
- Analyze data — load CSV files into DataFrames, clean and summarize them, and plot the results.
- Optimize decisions — schedule factories, route vehicles, or allocate budgets with JuMP and optimization solvers.
- Train machine-learning models — neural networks with Flux or Lux, and "scientific machine learning" that mixes models with data.
- Crunch numbers fast — replace slow loops in other languages with Julia code that runs at compiled speed, on many cores, clusters, or GPUs.
- Explore interactively — notebooks with Pluto.jl or Jupyter (the "Ju" in Jupyter stands for Julia).
You'll build smaller versions of several of these in the project lessons at the end of each level.
