Beginner Projects

Build these as .ps1 scripts using what Level 1 covered — cmdlets, the pipeline, variables, conditionals, and loops.

1. Disk Space Report

List every drive (Get-PSDrive -PSProvider FileSystem) with its used and free space in gigabytes, rounded to one decimal, and print a warning for any drive with less than 10% free.

2. Downloads Folder Organizer

Move files from a folder into subfolders by extension — Images, Documents, Archives, Other — using Get-ChildItem, a switch statement, and Move-Item. Add a -WhatIf run first to preview.

3. Top Processes Report

Show the ten processes using the most memory, with name, ID, and memory in MB, and save the result to a CSV file with Export-Csv.

4. File Age Cleanup

Find files older than 30 days in a temporary folder with Get-ChildItem and Where-Object LastWriteTime -lt (Get-Date).AddDays(-30), show their total size, and remove them — with -WhatIf first.

5. Password Generator

Generate a random password of a given length from letters, digits, and symbols using Get-Random, and copy it to the clipboard with Set-Clipboard.
