What Can You Do With SQL?
Knowing what SQL is used for makes it easier to stay motivated while learning the basics:
- Answer business questions — "Which products sold best last month?" "How many customers signed up per week?"
- Power applications — every time you log in, place an order, or save a setting, an application runs SQL behind the scenes.
- Build reports and dashboards — tools like Metabase, Looker Studio, Power BI, and Tableau are driven by SQL queries.
- Clean and prepare data — find duplicates, fix inconsistent values, and reshape data for analysis.
- Design data storage — decide how an application's data is organized, so it stays consistent and fast.
- Analyze large datasets — data warehouses such as BigQuery, Snowflake, and Redshift use SQL to query billions of rows.
You'll practice several of these in the project lessons at the end of each level.
