Beginner Projects
Prerequisites: Level 1 — Beginner
Build these using only what Level 1 covered — variables, conditionals, loops, functions, and arrays/objects. Each is small enough to finish in under an hour once the concepts feel familiar.
Calculator
Take two numbers and an operator as input (via prompt() in a browser, or
hardcoded values), and log the result. Concepts used: conditionals,
functions, basic error handling (what if they enter / with 0?).
Number Guessing Game
Pick a random number (Math.floor(Math.random() * 100) + 1) and let the
user keep guessing until they get it right, logging "Too high"/"Too low"
after each guess. Concepts used: while loops, conditionals.
To-Do List (in the console)
Store items in an array, with functions to add an item, list all items, and remove an item by its position. Concepts used: arrays, functions, loops.
Countdown Timer
Log a countdown from a chosen number down to zero, one number at a time, then log "Done!". Concepts used: loops, functions.
Simple Quiz
Store a few question/answer pairs in an array of objects, ask each question, and report a final score out of the total. Concepts used: arrays of objects, loops, conditionals.
Color Palette Generator
Generate a list of random hex color codes
(`#${Math.floor(Math.random()*16777215).toString(16)}`).
Concepts used: functions, template literals, loops.
Digital Clock (console)
Log the current time (new Date().toLocaleTimeString()) — a natural bridge
into Level 2's DOM lesson, where this becomes a real on-page clock.
Concepts used: functions, built-in Date object.
