Installing Node.js
You don't need to install anything to run JavaScript in a browser — but to run it outside one (and to use npm packages), install Node.js (the current LTS release is recommended).
Confirm the install worked:
node --version
npm --version
Common mistakes
- Installing a very old Node version from an OS package manager instead of the official installer — modern JavaScript syntax may not run on it.
