Beginner Projects
Prerequisites: Level 1 — Beginner
Build these on your own using what you learned in Level 1. Each one uses the DATA step, variables, formats, conditional logic, and PROC PRINT and SORT.
1. Class Report Card
Type ten students' names and three test scores into a datalines block.
Compute each student's average, assign a letter grade with IF-THEN/ELSE
(watch the variable length), sort by average, and print the result with a
title and nicely formatted numbers.
2. Loan Payment Table
For a list of loan amounts, interest rates, and terms, compute the monthly
payment (the formula p * r / (1 - (1 + r)**(-n)) with a monthly rate) and
print it with the DOLLAR format.
3. Exploring SASHELP
Pick a data set from the SASHELP library (for example SASHELP.CARS), run
PROC CONTENTS on it, then create a smaller data set with WHERE, KEEP,
and new calculated variables, and print the first 10 rows.
4. Birthday Calculator
Read a list of names and birth dates with a date informat, compute each person's age in days and the day of the week they were born, and print the dates with at least two different date formats.
