What Can You Do With SAS?

Knowing what SAS is used for makes it easier to stay motivated while learning the basics:

  • Clinical trials — preparing trial data in standard formats (CDISC SDTM and ADaM) and producing the tables, listings, and figures that go into drug submissions. The U.S. FDA receives submission data sets in the SAS transport (XPT) file format.
  • Banking and insurance — credit risk models, fraud detection, regulatory reporting, and pricing.
  • Government and public health — official statistics, surveys, and disease surveillance.
  • Business reporting — cleaning data from many sources, joining it, and producing regular reports in PDF, Excel, or HTML.
  • Statistics and research — regression, ANOVA, mixed models, survival analysis, and survey statistics, all built in.
  • Data management — moving and reshaping large tables between files and databases, reliably and on a schedule.

You'll build smaller versions of several of these in the project lessons at the end of each level.
