Modern PHP Versions: 8.0 Through 8.4

Prerequisites: Package development & publishing

A quick map of the features used throughout this course and which version introduced them:

  • PHP 8.0 — union types, named arguments, match, constructor property promotion, attributes.
  • PHP 8.1 — enums, readonly properties, Fibers, first-class callable syntax.
  • PHP 8.2 — readonly classes, standalone types like null and false.
  • PHP 8.3 — typed class constants, cloning with updated readonly properties.
  • PHP 8.4 — this course's baseline; property hooks and asymmetric visibility (public private(set)) are its headline additions.

Knowing this history helps explain why older tutorials or Stack Overflow answers sometimes look noticeably different from the code in this course.
