Beginner Projects
Prerequisites: Level 1 — Beginner
Build these using only what Level 1 covered — variables, conditionals, loops, functions, and the built-in collection types. Each is small enough to finish in under an hour once the concepts feel familiar.
Calculator
Ask the user for two numbers and an operator (+, -, *, /), then
print the result. Concepts used: input/output, conditionals,
basic error handling (what happens if they enter / with 0?).
Number Guessing Game
Pick a random number (random.randint(1, 100)) and let the user keep
guessing until they get it right, printing "Too high"/"Too low" after each
guess. Concepts used: while loops, conditionals, the random
module.
To-Do List
Let the user add items to a list, view the list, and remove an item by
its number, in a loop that keeps running until they choose "quit".
Concepts used: lists, while loops, functions.
Unit Converter
Convert between two units of the user's choice (e.g. kilometers to miles, Celsius to Fahrenheit). Concepts used: functions, conditionals, numbers.
Password Generator
Generate a random password of a length the user specifies, using letters,
digits, and symbols. Concepts used: strings, the random module,
functions.
Simple Quiz
Store a few question/answer pairs in a dictionary, ask each question, and report a final score out of the total. Concepts used: dictionaries, loops, conditionals.
File Organizer
Given a folder of files, sort them into subfolders by their extension
(.txt, .jpg, etc.). Concepts used: the os module, strings,
loops — this one is a natural bridge into Level 2's file handling lesson.
