Monorepos and Project References

A monorepo holds multiple related packages (e.g. a shared types package, a backend, and a frontend) in one repository. TypeScript's project references let each package have its own tsconfig.json while still type-checking against the others' compiled output efficiently.

{
  "references": [
    { "path": "../shared-types" }
  ]
}

This lets a large codebase be split into independently-buildable pieces without losing cross-package type checking.
